Longing
The month of March was incredibly busy. I was out of town for approximately 14 days, and the time that I was actually in Fort Worth was spent making up for the time I was away from school. Thus, the neglect of the blog. Until I have more time, here is a piece I wrote for The Link, our campus newsletter. Enjoy.
A strong wind
carried me
here
now the journey
threatens demise
the labor
the loneliness
the longing
too much is at stake
too many tears of blood
shed
by loved ones who suffer
beyond my fingertips
memories of
impoverished Salvadorian and Mexican friends,
whose smiles veiled their affliction,
open my tired eyes
as sleep attempts to steal our futures
reflecting upon
the unstoppable courage of all
who continue to toil in the urban wasteland I call home
gives endurance to push through
just when I thought I’d done enough
and news of reunions after years apart
breezes in
fuels me with hope
when the loneliness risks compassion
these are the winds that surged to bring me here
though now faint
they will sustain
and armed with the power of healing
I will return to the struggle once again
